The mariner is feeling like his time has come just like how the day is almost over and the sun is burning bright. Also the sun being blocked out could also be a representation of his hope dying. Not only that but the eerie ship could be the representation of the ‘entity’ death coming to take him to the after life. The woman controlling the ship may also be a lure for him to follow so he can end his suffering. The so called entity beside her could also be a ship mate who helps to capture people. Furthermore the game both of them are playing could be deciding what to do with the mariner.
